The Centre of Biostatistics in the University of Limerick is re-advertising
an IRCSET PhD studentship (duration 3 years). The post is part-funded
by PAREXEL International.
The person appointed will have a strong background in Mathematical
Statistics and Statistical Programming, preferably with an MSc in
Statistics,
Medical Statistics or Biostatistics.
The project area lies in Pharmacovigiliance. It aims to develop optimal
statistical
methodology for monitoring safety in Phase IV pharmacological studies. The
immediate goal is to develop an economic approach to this problem using
novel
statistical methods and ideas.
More broadly the project will investigate the logic and analysis of
non-randomised
studies and develop optimal statistical methods of adjusting for
confounding. The
student will acquire a command of existing model-based methods associated
with case-control and cohort studies and an appreciation of their
various strengths
and weaknesses with a view to innovaotion.
The studentship which is open to EU students and non-EU students
conforms to the
standard IRCSET Enterprise Partnership Scheme (www.ircset.ie). The student
stipend is c€16k per annum. IRCSET also pays fees, limited conference
travel and
equipment.
