This week's (June 1) New Yorker magazine has a very interesting essay, with what seemed to me a good take on the problem of high cost of health care (and area differences in same) in the U.S. The article is "The Cost Conundrum: What a Texas town can teach us about health care," by Atul Gawande. I recommend it highly. It actually has a very creative suggestion for monitoring unnecessary testing and procedures.
