New ICE Virtual Library platform reaches development milestone
*Apologies for cross-posting*
Dear Colleagues,
The ICE Virtual Library – the new single platform solution for the
Institution of Civil Engineers’ (ICE) book and journal content back to 1836
has reached a key development milestone last month with the release of its
first external beta.
On April 22nd, Thomas Telford Ltd, the knowledge business of the ICE,
announced the release of the first external beta, showcasing increased
searching, browsing and authentication control functionality with the
intention of broadening access for libraries, engineering companies and
organisations, and end-users.
The Institution of Civil Engineers and Thomas Telford Ltd. are now in an
ongoing consultation phase with a panel of beta testers drawn from the
library community and the worlds of research and practice in civil engineering.
Today’s announcement marks a significant development of ICE Virtual Library,
and brings the Institution one step closer to launching its new range of
ebooks and realising its goal of hosting all journal and book content –
including archive material – in a single location, benefitting the entire
civil engineering community from librarians to consultants by delivering
increased functionality and accessibility.
Publisher Leon Heward-Mills said,
“By bringing together the knowledge of ICE on a single platform, we’re
showing that we’ve listening to our customers’ needs by taking a new and
integrated approach based on the feedback we've received. We are also
excited about developing flexible pricing models in challenging times and
launching a range of new ebooks not available anywhere else.”
ICE Virtual Library will be launched in July, providing essential civil
engineering knowledge to the community and including major new
functionality, from Shibboleth compliance, COUNTER reports and OpenURL
enabling to library branding and improved administrator tools. ICE Virtual
Library is being designed in collaboration with Publishing Technology, a
division of Ingenta.

Virtual Library will benefit you, contact me using the details below.
