I like her too and we actually used to converse years back. But
yesterday was my moment for double-takes. CD is a bit "craggier" than
what I've seen in the NYorker. She seemed anomalous in a magazine that
used to make a living off Ogden Nash and Dorothy Parker. I know,
they've had far more challenging writers than the magazine's detractors
are willing to admit, but still...CD at times writes from her own
universe and isn't willing to meet her readers halfway. That's what
makes her interesting.
