I always send my photocopied notes via Registered post, so there is an audit trail in case they do not arrive at their destination. This was very useful recently when a GP surgery said they had not received my letter. A phone call to the number on the slip you get when sending a Registered letter, not only informed us when it was delivered but who had signed for it. Faced with this evidence the notes made a sudden and miraculous appearance at the GP surgery! I suggest by sending notes in this way you have done all that is reasonable to safeguard their safe transportation. Hope this helps. Kind regards Allison

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Sending medical notes via Royal Mail/Courier
Sent: 23 May 2009 08:40
Hi All
I sometimes have to send copies of medical notes (occasionally originals) to other professionals, solicitors etc. Usually I photocopy and send them via Royal Mail either registered or special or both. Sometimes I use a courier. Expense is not an issue.
Does anyone have any reference documents about my statutory/common law duties on this? Appreciate your thoughts - it has worried me that they could still go missing.
