Good day everyone,
I just wanted to announce that Parks Canada just launched video channels on
YouTube, MySpace and Yahoo Video where we’ll be posting videos on Canada’s
national parks, national marine conservation areas, as well as many of our
national historic sites.
Although we realize that many institutions having been foraying into the
social web for some time, often Government entities are still quite
hesitant to explore using social websites for outreach and public
education. As such, we’re quite happy to have launched this pilot project,
which we’ll use as an opportunity to evaluate what works best for us, what
staff competencies and training will be required to distribute video
production and posting across our Agency and to develop standards for the
use of these spaces for communications with the public.
We’re starting off with just a handful of videos but will be adding lots
more over time! Videos will range from promotional pieces, to shorts about
wildlife, habitats, activities visitors can undertake and Canadian history,
to scientists, archaeologists and historians discussing their work and
issues facing these protected places.
Whenever possible we’re posting videos in HD on YouTube and if your
bandwidth supports that, they look pretty darn nice in full screen- so they
may be great clips to show in educational programs and classroom activities
or lessons about Canada's national heritage places.
Help us out by rating the videos (please be kind!), becoming friends of
Parks Canada and subscribing so we can build our ranking on these sites'
search functions and spread more public awareness about Canada’s national
parks and national marine conservation areas.

These videos are also available in French on our accompanying French
channels (visit the links above for referrals to the French addresses), or
can be viewed and downloaded in the multimedia gallery on Parks Canada's
website, in both English and French as well as in more accessible formats
than available on many video-sharing sites.
We hope you enjoy a little piece of Canada from wherever you're connected
to the Web!
