MIUSA’s IDD Updates
Building an Inclusive Development Community (BIDC) Project expands to Mali, Colombia and Ethiopia: With support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), MIUSA will conduct technical assistance with USAID Missions, implementing partners, and disabled peoples’ organizations (DPOs) in three new countries, to promote inclusion of people with disabilities in development. In consultation with USAID and U.S. DPO collaborators, MIUSA will select an additional country, to be announced next month.
Mobility International USA in Mali: MIUSA made an introductory field visit to Bamako, Mali in March 2009 to launch the Building an Inclusive Development Community project. While in Mali, Lisa Adams, BIDC Project Manager:
a.. Met with Mission personnel to learn about the USAID/Mali programs, to find opportunities for inclusion and determine possible areas for future technical assistance
b.. Met with local DPOs to learn about their previous experience working on inclusive development issues and determine possible areas of needed capacity building or technical assistance
c.. Met with international and local NGOs to learn about existing development programs including the extent to which programs currently include people with disabilities and determine opportunities for future capacity building or technical assistance in the area of inclusive development
MIUSA will be making introductory visits to both Colombia and Ethiopia in late May. For more information about MIUSA’s BIDC project visit our website.
