Hi Karen,
Having used them in various locations I would generally recommend them.
I have worked in the past with the designer to develop these and the
latest versions are better allowing a greater variation of widths to
meet different needs. They will allow most bicycles through.
What they are not good at is providing access for double buggies or
large ie wide wheelchairs, but they are more adjustable now and this may
be a trade-off you need to look at to decide on the level of
accessibility against restriction on motorbikes etc. A way round the
restrictive access is to continue to provide padlocked maintenance gates
at the side which disabled people have keys for. The benefit of the
A-frame is the need for keys is reduced and access is easier.
As ever there is no size fits all but the designer is wiling to
continually develop these A-frames and meet any needs he can. There are
a number of layout and construction issues that must be monitored to
enable all disabled people to use them. Please ring me if you would like
to know more.
At the end of the day they are a barrier to everyone and so a proper
assessment must be made of the need to provide any form of barrier and
what the alternatives might be. It's a classic case of needing to
consult specifically local disabled people and undertaking an Equality
Impact Assessment.

Subject: Three Valleys Access Barriers any good?
Countryside services are looking to use the Three Valleys Access
Barriers in
order to stop motorbike access. www.fearntruckbodies.co.uk/page2.html
I have my concerns that all push bikes might not gain access due to
width of
handlebars and mobiity scooters who may use a canopy cover won't get
through the restricted space.
Until now the gates with RADAR keys had been used but they have been
vandalised so the path is permanently closed.
Has anybody used the three valleys access barrier successfully?
