Hello,
The Sustainable Leisure Travel Network is holding its first workshop on the
subject of 'Can low carbon tourism be economically viable?'. Speakers include
Rebecca Willis Vice Chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission and
author of Low Carbon Lake District and Alistair Kirkbride and Judith Moore of
Friends of the Lake District, who have recently had to make hard decisions
about supporting bus services in the Lake District.
The workshop will consider whether recent research in the Lake District is
relevant to other areas, whether reducing the carbon impact of tourist travel
can help maintain, reduce or increase tourism revenues within a destination
area and how policy intervention might help reduce carbon and other
environmental impacts of visitor travel.
The workshop takes place in Staveley, on the edge of the Lake District and
accessible by train on 7th May. Cost £86.25, with a concessionary rate of
£46.00.
