Finance and banking have undergone major changes over the past couple of
decades. The globalization of the business environment as well as the
technological advances in telecommunications and computer science have
played a significant role in the introduction of new financial products, the
change in banking practices and the development of new regulatory
frameworks. Nevertheless, the recent crisis clearly demonstrates that there
are still considerable challenges that need to be met by professionals,
regulators and researchers.
The recent advances in computer science and operations research can be of
considerable help towards this direction. Within this context, the
development and implementation of intelligent methods has attracted
considerable interest among researchers and professionals working in finance
and banking. Soft computing techniques, evolutionary computation, data
mining and business intelligence systems, among others, have emerged as new
tools with many applications in finance and banking problems, ranging from
risk assessment, to asset pricing, performance measurement, human resources
and customer relationship management.
The scope of this special issue is to present high quality research work on
the most recent advances on the development and implementation of
intelligent systems in finance and banking. The term “intelligent systems”
covers a broad range of research topics, including but not limited to:
- Agent-based systems
- Business intelligence and data mining
- Evolutionary computation
- Knowledge-based systems
- Knowledge engineering, management and integration
- Soft computing
Application areas in finance and banking include among others:
- Risk management
- Asset pricing
- Behavioral issues
- Efficiency and performance measurement
- E-banking and trading systems
- Human resources management
- Customer relationship management
Submitted papers should present high quality innovative work on themes of
practical and research interest, while demonstrating academic and
theoretical rigor. All papers will be refereed following the standards of HSM.
Submissions should be sent by email (in PDF format) to the Guest Editors
([log in to unmask], [log in to unmask]). The submission deadline is June 30,
