Hi Malcolm, et al. as I mentioned previously and in the WP reply, I'm
looking to evaluate ORAC-DR as a possible core framework for the LCO
Pipeline. The timing is reasonably fortuitous as we are going to be
deploying a new camera soon. This camera (a 4kx4k Fairchild optical CCD
device readout through 4 amplifiers) is not well supported by the
existing pipeline inherited from the ARI.
The sort of task a new pipeline would need to do are:
* Construction of masterbias, dark and flatfields and maintenance of a
library of master calibs (certainly in the case of flats, with 18
filters, it will take a while to get a complete set)
* Application of these masters to science frames
* Automatic WCS solver
* Construction of reduced resolution JPEGs
In future it would be nice to add object detection/catalogue production
and photometry via SExtractor.
Currently the pipeline is run in 2 modes; a "QuickLook" mode that is run
every 10 mins using existing calib frames that were available at the
start of the night and then after the morning flats, an "offline" run
where new master calib frames are made and the data are reprocessed.
Cheers,
TimL
