This year’s CILIPS Annual Conference will feature a whole day’s programme
dedicated to the school library sector, which will run alongside the main
conference. In addition to presentations covering the major issues in
Scottish education, such as the implementation of A Curriculum for
Excellence and the roll-out of Glow, the school libraries strand will also
include the launch of the updated HMIe self-evaluation toolkit, Improving
libraries for learners.
The day will begin with a whole conference keynote address by Jonathan
Mitchener, BT futurologist and research scientist, who will discuss
technological advances that could impact on library service delivery.
A representative from the Scottish Government will then discuss A Curriculum
for Excellence, before the formal launch of Improving libraries for learners.
The mid-morning section will look at Glow, the national schools intranet,
and the role of school libraries in its development. This session will be
presented by Marie Dougan, Glow Programme Director, and Elspeth Scott,
librarian and Glow mentor with Dundee City Council.
After lunch, Cleo Jones of Edinburgh City Council will present examples of A
Curriculum for Excellence in practice, including case studies from a number
of practising school librarians.
The programme will conclude with a review of the government’s wider Skills
for Scotland agenda.
Delegates may choose to attend the entire school strand or mix and match
with the main conference programme and the additional career development
themed strand.
Buses will depart the hotel at 5.15pm.
