Dear EBHA-members,

please find below a research question concerning SNCF-stockholders by Prof.
Jim Cohen.

Best regards

Gabriele

--------

I am trying to find information concerning the number and characteristics of
the private stockholders of SNCF-the French National Railway Company.
Because it was created originally in 1937 as a Société Anonyme par Actions
(limited liability stock company), SNCF was governed by the French
Commercial Code. By the terms of the 1937 Law, individual and corporate
stockholders in the "old/anciens" railways (chemins de fer) did not receive
their "new/nouveau" stock until after 1955 (from 1937 to 1955 all shares
were held in special accounts for each of the 5 "old" private companies).
Does anyone know a source of data/information concerning the stockholders
who received their stock after 1955? For example, when transfers of stock
were made by the railway companies to their owners after 1955, would some
kind of filing under the terms of the French Commercial Code have been
required, similar to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission in
the United States? And/or would a report/filing/record have been made to a
ministry of the French government? Thanks for your ideas. (I have already
searched, without success, in the National Archives in Paris and Roubaix;
the Treasury Archive at Savigny; SNCF Archive au Mans.)

Savigny.)

Je vous remercie de votre aide.
