Of course, Doug, one can't be disillusioned about the aural record of that
wonderful statement - which holds true even for records, since what you hear
has gone, next time it's a different you in a different river.
All the Mingus, yes, another favourite.
The last recording by Dolphy (at the last reckoning) is Naima, rec. Paris
11th June '64, 9 days after the other with Misha Mengelberg. This has 2 long
tracks sandwiching a short one, w/D.Byrd tr., N.Davis ts., J.Dieval p.,
J.Hess b., F.Manzecchi dr., J.Bambou percussions. Pretty rare CD - I was
lucky to get a copy.

There may be, & disillusioned, I stand by my reaction, that it's a
deeply moving comment at the end of the CD & was said by him, live, at
some point, & yet it's existence on a record where i can listen to it
again & again, & be moved by what it suggests even as its very being
there on the record somewhat undermines what it states, suggets
something about the potential of 'auras' to me.
There are much worse things to be addicted to.... (you must have all
the Mingus recordings with him, then?)
