Consulting Fishers Contact Dermatitis indicates the following:
Contact urticarial reactions appear to occur only to platinum salts and not
to the metallic platinum. It is this type of allergic reaction that can also
cause asthma and anaphylactic reactions and for which the prick test is
used.
Allergic contact dermatitis to the metallic platinum is rare and this type
of reaction is again usually to the salts.
In conclusion: "Although contact dermatitis to metallic platinum is rare,
eczematous dermatitis and contact urticaria may occur from exposure to the
platinum salts. 'Platinosis' - a symptom complex of allergic rhinitis and
asthma - is more common."
So unless you are dealing with platinum salts I would suggest that the risk
of allergic reactions is actually quite small. If you are dealing with
platinum salts then you need to ensure that you have adequate risk
management measures in place to eliminate exposure.
