?The History of migrant doctors and other migrant health workers in
the NHS: defining a research agenda?
June 24, 2009 11AM - 3.30PM
Seminar organised by the University of Manchester and the Open University
Venue: National Primary Care Research and Development Centre,
University of Manchester
The development and expansion of the NHS over the sixty years of its
existence has to a great extent relied on the labour of thousands of
migrant doctors. In spite of this, there has been to date relatively
little work devoted to examining the experiences of these doctors and
how they have shaped medicine in the UK. This seminar will be an
opportunity to hear about some of the research that is currently
seeking to bridge this gap. It also aims to bring together those with
a research interest in this field and related areas, such as migrant
nurses and other health professionals, to share perspectives and
explore avenues for further work, including comparative approaches and
collaborations.
