Hello,
If it will be of any help in future if you seek information on emigrants from the Swaledale area especially, I happen to live in the Upper Mississippi River Lead Region at the border of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. A fair number of lead mining families and individuals from the Dales settled in this region in the 19th century along with a varied population of other miners. I explain the lead mining history of this area to visitors at a local museum.
Regards
Joseph Rapp

Hello,
I am in the early stages of researching a postgraduate MA dissertation on lead mining in Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. My degree is landscape archaeology, so this features heavily, but I am approaching the subject from a social history point of view.
I realise the above is a bit vague, but if anyone knows of any sources which may be of use, or if you think you may be able to help me, please get in touch and let me know.
Thanks in advance.
