Young People’s Communication Development Officer – KTP Associate
Enterprise & Development Division
£18,984 - £20,096 PA
24 month Fixed Term Contract

Brook Manchester and the University of Salford are seeking an
ambitious individual to manage and deliver an exciting Knowledge
Transfer Partnership (KTP) project. Based at Brook Manchester offices,
you will lead a project aimed at improving the communication with boys
and young men around sexual health. You will develop and deliver a
range of communication programmes, implement an evaluation toolkit and
a range of digital media services. There is a substantial development
package of over £4,000 associated with this project which includes:
the opportunity to complete a Diploma in Management and a higher
degree; and project specific training as necessary.

Established in 1996, and part of the national Brook Network, Brook
Manchester provides free and confidential sexual health advice and
services to young people aged 19 and under. The impact of the KTP will
provide Brook with more effective delivery programmes, an evaluation
method/tool, which can be used to identify critical success; enabling
Brook to contribute to informing national policy on value for money;
preventative investment initiatives; and good practice. Brook
Manchester is looking to increase the number of young men using the
service and this KTP will give Brook a clear understanding about
communicating effectively; what are the learning mechanisms/influences
on boys and young men; are they different from girls and young women?

As KTP Associate, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to
communicate and work with young people, professionals within Brook
and partner organisations; evaluation techniques and their
implementation; develop knowledge and skills about and the challenges
Brook face in an open commercial tendering environment. You will be
required to work within a close team, under commercial pressure, to
become a key player within Brook Manchester. You will take
responsibility for the successful delivery of the project which will
develop your project management, time management and communication
skills. You will also possess an interest in IT particularly usage of
digital media such as the internet and mobile phones along with the
desire to develop your awareness of strategic and operational decision
making processes. Alongside these skills and attributes we require
that you have a 2:1 honours degree (or higher) in
Media/Communications/Information Systems/Computing/IT (or a strongly
related field) including experience of quantitative and qualitative
methods, data handling, cost analysis and in particular the
development and use of IT applications is required. An understanding
and empathetic approach to working with young people is essential and
experience of working directly with young people would be an
advantage. Commitment to the Brook goals, core values and ethos is
essential. You must also be able to work in a team and independently.

For further details and an application form visit the Personnel
Division website at www.personnel.salford.ac.uk Alternatively please
call 0161 295 2122 (24 hrs) or e-mail [log in to unmask] quoting
reference number KTP/39. CVs will not be accepted without a completed
application form.

Forms to be returned by: 21 April 2009.

At the University of Salford we are committed to an inclusive approach
to promoting equality and diversity. We aim to have a more diverse
workforce at all levels of the institution and particularly welcome
applications from people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people
with disabilities, who are under-represented in our workforce.
