All,
Further to my email the other day, this is just a follow-up message to
say that I have managed to get ADE and SED working on an open-access,
multi-user PC.
The user opens the email, clicks the 'Download your e book here' link,
and ADE opens. The user still has to authorise/activate the computer,
but there is no need to install ADE or anything - click, and the e book
opens.
Our ILL Librarian has seen this working, and we both believe that it is
a good solution - and makes the process a great deal easier for users.
I have tested it in both I.E.7 and FF3.08 and it works in both browsers.
It's pretty much as good as you can get in an open-access environment,
and it means that we can have the latest version of Adobe Reader.
I will also make the same changes to the servers that control our
thin-client provision. so we will be able to ensure access to SED
articles from all of our terminals.
If anyone requires any details of what I did to get it working, please
just get in touch and I'd be happy to share any information that will help.
Kind Regards,
Ian
