Renaissance Translators: theory and practice
Papers are invited on any aspect of translating in the Renaissance. The
aim of the panel is to bring together scholars working on the activity
of the literary translators in Renaissance Italy. Papers will focus on
the practical as well as the intellectual circumstances in which the
activity of translating took shape between the late fourteenth century
and the end of the sixteenth century.
Contributions will highlight aspects such as the emergence of the
translator as a 'professional' within the courts and the printing
presses, their role in the production and circulation of books, and
their impact on the intellectual debates of the time, with particular
reference to linguistics and philosophy.
