all -- not sure how many folks on this list are familiar w/ISKO, the
International Society for Knowledge Organization. this research community
addresses all sort of interesting questions on vocabularies, ontologies,
and classificatory systems. the below talk on data interpretation looks
*really* interesting. (i'd go..if i were in London or close by!!).
if anyone does attend, i'd be interested in hearing from them, or perhaps
they would want to share w/the list..or put some notes on the wiki.
best wishes, jane

"Human-machine symbiosis for data interpretation" - London, 23 April
2009
***Apologies for cross-posting***
We would like to remind you of the next ISKO UK afternoon event:
HUMAN-MACHINE SYMBIOSIS FOR DATA INTERPRETATION a talk by David Snowden
followed by a panel discussion
23 April 2009 - 16:30-19:00
VENUE: University College London, Roberts Building
FEE: £10.00 (ISKO members and students FREE)
Complexity science, strategic planning, organizational behaviour... these
are just some of the fields in which Dave Snowden has made a name for
himself. An outstanding pioneer in the techniques of knowledge management,
he is also a master of rhetoric, guaranteed to captivate practitioners and
researchers. Storytelling is not just his forte, but the essence of the
art of narrative he promotes. On Thursday 23 April he will address us on
the intriguing topic of "Human-machine symbiosis for data interpretation."
Will we hear about complexity or about making stories simple?
