As a newly completed undergrad / Masters postgrad at RHUL at the time, I
second/third Felix and David's memories 9i remember a fantastic AGM - very
vibrant) and being a nervous mere stude asking a question about the potential
legacies of Shell sponsorship of geographical institutions .... Anyway ...
This is an interesting thread of discussion - Alan Bennett's 'history boys' quip
about 'nothing being so remote as the recent past' (think it was the teacher
Irwin who uttered the lines), and the need to take care of our own stories is
vital or things get 'lost' (as I am currently finding out in my doctoral research
into the journal Contemporary Issues in geography and Education (published
between 1983 - 1991)).
If anyone who was involved in writing / producing / reading / teaching with
resources produced by the collective of geographers / artists / activists /
public sector workers / NGOs and students whom I have not yet interviewed /
contacted could give me an email or let me know their recollections - that'd be
fab.
Many thanks
Jo
