Two new positions are available based within the Paediatric Epidemiology Group at the University of Leeds.

POST 1 - Medical Statistician / Epidemiologist

Leeds Institute of Genetics, Health and Therapeutics

Faculty of Medicine and Health
Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Paediatric Epidemiology Group

This full time post is available immediately for a fixed term of 24 months (with the possibility of extension dependent on funding) to join an enthusiastic and motivated team of researchers in the Paediatric Epidemiology Group. You will be responsible for conducting epidemiological and health services research exploiting data from a large population-based regional cancer register. Duties will also include developing analytical methods and working with clinical and academic colleagues to exploit the register. You will be responsible for validation and management of data collection and disseminating findings in medical/statistical journals and at local, national and international scientific meetings.

You should have a degree in a numerate discipline and practical experience of advanced statistical techniques. Experience in Microsoft Word and databases (Access) are essential, together with an ability to write up results in academic publication form. You must be self-motivated and work under own initiative, and able to prioritise and co-ordinate workloads to tight deadlines. A postgraduate qualification or relevant experience in medical statistics or epidemiology, and knowledge of the UK decennial Census is desirable.

Established in 1984, the Yorkshire Specialist Register of Cancer in Children and Young People has captured detailed clinical and socio-demographic information on young people diagnosed since 1974. The register represents one of only two specialist cancer registers covering children and young adults up to 30 years of age, the other based at Newcastle University where the successful applicant would be expected to collaborate jointly on epidemiological analyses.

While the post is based on the University of Leeds campus visits to other organisations, in particular NHS Trusts, may be required.

You can find out more about the Yorkshire Specialist Register of Cancer and the Paediatric Epidemiology Group on http://www.leeds.ac.uk/medhealth/light/research/deb/paediatric/index.html

University Grade 7 (£29,704 - £35,469 p.a.) depending upon experience and qualifications

POST 2 - Medical Statistician / Epidemiologist

Leeds Institute of Genetics, Health and Therapeutics

Faculty of Medicine and Health
Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Paediatric Epidemiology Group

Are you looking for a challenging post that will involve data analysis, reporting and development of new sources of information relating to diabetes in children and young people, and supporting new initiatives? This post presents an ideal opportunity for a numerate individual with an interest in applied health research to become involved with a project related to diabetes and young people at a regional and national level.

We are seeking a highly self-motivated researcher to support quality improvement in services and generate meaningful and complete clinical audit information about outcomes and care processes by providing information and evidence from the collection and analysis of data from the Strategic Health Authority audit and population-based register data.

This is an excellent opportunity to help improve patient outcomes by developing better information collection systems and combining data sources as well as supporting new initiatives in the region.

The post is available immediately for a fixed term of 12 months (with the possibility of extension dependent on funding). While the post is based on the University of Leeds campus visits to other organisations, in particular NHS Trusts, may be required.
