Postdoc in Quantum Dynamics
Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
A postdoctoral position in theoretical/computational physical chemistry is available in the group of Prof. Dmitri Babikov. Initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for up to three years. The research will focus on quantum mechanical treatment of the three-body recombination reaction that forms ozone in the stratosphere:
O + O2 + M → O3 + M,
with particular emphasis on explanation of anomalous large isotope effects. This problem is a famous mystery which still keeps many fine scientists interested and involved [J. Chem. Phys. 118, 6298 (2003); Chem. Phys. Let. 372, 686 (2003); J. Chem. Phys. 119, 2577 (2003); J. Chem. Phys. 127, 154312 (2007), Phys. Rev. Let. 99, 138301 (2007)].
The work will include theory and code development, and large-scale quantum mechanical calculations using massively parallel supercomputers. Candidates should be highly motivated, with a strong background in theoretical chemistry/chemical physics, have experience with quantum dynamics methods (e.g., wave packet, semi classical, coupled channel) and good programming skills. Please, feel free to contact me for further details. Marquette University is in the heart of Milwaukee, largest city in the state of Wisconsin, its cultural and historic center. To apply, send (e-mail is preferred) a short letter of intent, CV, list of publications, names and contact information of three people who is available to write a letter of recommendation to:
