Two fully-funded PhD studentships are available at the University of York
in the research group of Dr Caroline Dessent.
The start-dates for the studentships are flexible, with a preference for
October 2009 or earlier. Funding is available for UK, EU or overseas
students. Both of the available projects will involve laser spectroscopy
of gas-phase biological ions using laser interfaced mass spectrometers,
using both modified commercial instruments and a custom designed MS/MS
ion-trap system.
The studentships are suitable for students with a background and interest
in physical chemistry, with preference given to students who have some
experience of laboratory work in the areas of gas-phase ion chemistry,
laser spectroscopy or vacuum instrument development. Further details of
the projects on offer are available on request, while further details of
the group's research can be found at
http://www.york.ac.uk/depts/chem/staff/cd.html
Successful applicants will join an active, well-resourced research group,
and enjoy excellent opportunities for taking part in international
collaborations and participating in scientific conferences.
For further details of the research projects on offer and details of how to
apply, please contact Dr Mike Nix ([log in to unmask]), including a CV and
covering letter.
