You may also find that your local library, or university library,
subscribe to the e-version of this book - a website called
grantsforindividuals.org.uk - where you should be able to search on
geographic location, subject etc. It would also be worth you getting
touch with your local authority as they often administer small grants
programmes for local people including support for further study. It is,
as Sarah rightly says, probably a question of getting small sums - but
good luck.

Hi Ian, and list for interest
I would recommend sitting down with a copy of the hefty 'Directory of
Grant Making Trusts' - it should be in your local library. It is a big
book but lists all the different types of Trusts and bodies that offer
funds - if you are willing to wade your way through it you maybe able to
find some that are relevant to you.
You could also try Family Action who run the Educational Grants Advisory
Service. On their website they have a search engine that will match you
with grants you maybe eligible for:
http://www.family-action.org.uk/section.aspx?id=1037 They also have
helpful guides to applying for such grants.
You may also like to get back in touch with the organisation where you
studied as an undergraduate as they may well have odd trusts or
endowments for continuing education.
It is a hard slog of just getting a few hundred pounds here and there
and a lot of work with application forms etc. Do be warned that if you
have any substantial savings you'll find it much harder. Also the low
interest rates have hit many of these bodies hard. You may have to get
a loan anyway, but at least the amount may be less.
Good luck!

Subject: Post Graduate Funding.
Having been offered a place on Liverpool University's archives post
graduate in September, I have just spent the day looking for sources a
funding. As I expected there isn't much around apart from the inevitable
career development loan or spending savings. Nevertheless, I thought
there would be no harm asking on the list as you all have doubtless been
through this too.
Has anyone had any success in the past with some of the more obscure
trusts or funding bodies, if so which ones? Or can anyone recommend any
such sources of funding that I won't have found on the major post
graduate finance websites?
Thanks.
