The Motor Control Laboratory at K. U. Leuven (Belgium) has vacancies
for post-doctoral research on the following topics:
1. Age-related changes in the control and learning of hand/finger
movements and cognitively demanding coordination patterns, with an
emphasis on interhemispheric interactions. Neuroimaging (fMRI, DTI,
VBM) will be used to investigate age-related structural alterations,
and patterns of functional overactivation. This project also makes use
of MRI-guided TMS using a neuronavigation system.
2. Action observation experiments exploring the neural basis of daily
bimanual tasks and the unique brain areas involved in goal-directed
action requiring the differential contributions of both hands. This
project is conducted in collaboration with the Neuroscience Department
of the Group Biomedical Sciences (Prof. G. Orban).
For both projects, a multidisciplinary research strategy is
implemented, combining kinematic/behavioural analyses and
neurophysiological research techniques to study motor behaviour and
control. Several MRI scanners (3 T) are available via collaboration
with the Department of Radiology (Prof. Sunaert, UZ Gasthuisberg,
University Hospital, Leuven).
Qualifications and Attributes:
Candidates with a degree in (cognitive) neuroscience,
(neuro)psychology, kinesiology, physical therapy, biomedical sciences,
etc. are considered. A good command of the English language is
required. Programming skills (Matlab) and familiarity with the use of
SPM to analyze brain activations and brain connectivity is considered
a distinct advantage.
Application and further information:
Post doctoral positions are available starting june-august 2009 for a
period of up to 3 years. Applications are currently being accepted,
and will be reviewed until the positions are filled. If interested,
please send an electronic (e-mail) copy of your curriculum vitae and a
short statement of interest to:
