Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Jeremiah
Horrocks Institute for Astrophysics and Supercomputing of the University
of Central Lancashire, UK, to carry out research into dust emission from
forming and evolving galaxies, under the supervision of Dr. Cristina
Popescu. The holder of this position will work with Dr. C. Popescu and
Prof. Brad Gibson to perform calculations of the transfer of radiation
in numerically simulated galaxies, with the aim of predicting the
relation of the amplitude and spectrum of dust emission to the basic
physical characteristics of the galaxies and their environment,
considered in a cosmological context. The postdoctoral fellow will have
access to the state-of-the art cosmological simulations and dusty
radiative transfer codes developed at the Horrocks Institute. There will
also be outstanding opportunities for confrontation of these predictions
with observations due to the participation of the Horrocks Institute in
Herschel Space Observatory/ATLAS far-infrared/submm and GAMA optical
spectroscopic extragalactic surveys.
