Nicely said. Have done entry/exit medicals in previous employment but it
was a multi hazardous environment and it was insisted on to protect from
future litigation (eg NIHL, HAVS). From management point of view
probably sensible - but it was routine and contained within their terms
of employment - not sure that being singled out for one is a brilliant
idea and he is not bound to attend. Would lob it straight back to HR to
sort out

Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Exit Medical
Hi Catherine
Sounds like HR have just been issued with a solicitors letter discussing
employment tribunals and constructive dismissal, and they have knee
jerked that he had not had an exit medical due to perhaps something
stated in that letter.
In essence he is no longer an employee and therefore is under no
compunction to attend any proferred appointment and quite frankly what
benefit will it afford anyway as he is now 7 weeks out of employment. Is
it routine for your HR dept. to tell you what to do?
I would ask HR for more detail regarding the reasons for needing a
medical of this nature at this stage when it should be done prior to
leaving not well after, clarity on whether this is a legal issue.
Insurance wise he would be a visitor and governed by your policies on
visitors to the workplace.
Also what is wrong with HR sending a letter to him stating he didn't
complete an exit medical and asking him to contact OH to organise one.
Cheers
Pete

It is normal policy for OH to undertake an exit medical for all staff
during their last week of employment.
Several weeks ago, an employee left suddenly (was dismissed) and I have
just received an email from HR requesting that I send this gentleman an
appointment to come in.
Are there any legal implications for inviting this ex employee in, as I
think I remember something from somewhere regarding insurance??
I would be grateful for any thoughts.
