Personally I find many of the CHES reports of limited value, often full of errors both regarding interpretation and historical fact. Of course those areas are not usually the remit of these reports, which are usually produced in limited time constraints. It seems unfortunate that CHES staff (with some exceptions) are unwilling to consult individuals who would be able to assist in producing a much more accurate document. It all sounds like professional egotism to me! Sorry for the gripe, but it would be interesting to hear others views (especially from CHES, if they see this).

Bernard,
The mines you refer to are EAST of Callington in the parish of
Calstock. They were recently the subject of an archaeological
assessment carried out for the Cornwall Historic Environment Service
( HES - what used to be the Archaeological Unit). I haven't yet had
sight of the report but it should provide the detail you require.
Suggest you contact Colin Buck at Cornwall HES (contact details on
the Cornwall County Council website).
