There was an SF site at Liddington, according to Dobinson's book. There was also one at Barbury castle.

Several of these sites have been recorded as part of the National Mapping Programme, and almost all of them are no longer visible, or just the bunker remains. Many of them were quite temporary in nature, for example The Starfish on Black Down, Mendip was last seen in 1943.There is a good image of a pair at

Hi John,
Again the two references quoted by Roger and David.

I can't be certain that it is definitely related to the SF site but there is a huge rectangular tank on Liddington Castle, Wiltshire which to my mind anyway bears an uncanny resemblance to the ones used to hold the oil used to simulate fires. It's now being used as an animal trough but seems over large to have been designed as such.

The site shelter is also intact and cunningly disguised by the copse of tress known as Liddington Clump which is a well known landmark visible for miles around.

Can anyone advise me where to find published works about WW2 Starfish (SF)
bombing decoys. In particular I am looking for information about what
equipment would be placed within the landscape.

Also, am I correct in assuming that all that generally survives of these
installations in the control bunker ?

Any help would be appreciated.

John Winterburn
