Connections is an annual conference for research students from
throughout the arts and social sciences, hosted by research students
from the Sociology Department at the University of Bristol. The
conference is an opportunity for research students to present and
discuss papers in a diverse and supportive environment. It is also a
great opening to meet and form 'connections' with peers, crossing
disciplinary and geographic divides.
Connections 8 builds upon the success of earlier years in emphasizing
the interdisciplinary nature of the conference. We welcome the
participation of students from throughout the arts and social sciences.
We hope that the overarching theme – “Speculative Futures” – will
provide an interesting and pertinent directionality to the conference.
However, it is expected that the topics of the streams will be
interpreted loosely and creatively, enabling participation of students
from diverse disciplinary backgrounds.
The Connections Eight team thus invites fellow research students to
present a paper, of 15-20 minutes, in one of the above streams. If you
would like to present a paper please submit an abstract of 250-350 words
by Friday 24th April. Non-paper giving participants are also very much
welcome. Please send us an e-mail to state that you are interested by
the same date.
