Hi Nick,
From Kew, there are a few projects that would be worth mentioning.
Under the digital content bullet, two projects of interest:
a. We are just launching The Great Plant Hunt (funded by the Wellcome Trust)
- a project for every primary school in the UK that includes offline and
online resources with a series of online mass participation/citizen science
opportunities for schools. See www.greatplanthunt.org
b. Kew runs a GPS guide in the Gardens called Kew Ranger - a bespoke device
that delivers location specific video and audio content to visitors as they
move around the gardens. It's based on a platform run by a company called
Node and is designed to migrate to mobile phones when the technology and
battery life are suitable.
Under your 'Digital Participation' bullet, we ran a photography showcase in
partnership with Flickr during our Henry Moore exhibition, which attracted
over 2,500 submissions. You can see the final selections at
www.kew.org/henry-moore/create/photoshowcase.shtml
Let me know if you need any more info on these.
Best wishes,
Mike
