There are umpteen high profile web services with familiar interfaces and
a ready-made user-base already available to me that could do the job of
this site much more effectively (even without mainlining the aggregate
collections search).
What about:
Flickr
Google Groups
Facebook
MySpace
...
etc?
I would guess that not much of the budget has been spent on working out
how users will interact with it (do they even want it?). I have had a
tinker already (my "notebook" is "Bacon not Francis" - no way to filter
out "Francis" in my search BTW) and find the whole thing rather clunky
and unappealing; too many issues to mention here though.
Sorry for the negativity folks. At least it is only in beta I suppose.

I'd be inclined to agree with the 'Why?' part.
The front page is very web 2.0, but it doesn't explain anything to me.
I'm not understanding the reason why I might engage with the site.
technically it's obviously very clever, but I don't get it.
What's in it for me?
Who will use it? why will they use it?
I'm reminded of the adage, "just because we can, doesn't mean we
should".
I'm sort of vaguely understanding the purpose, but it doesn't excite me.
I think I'd rather see collections assembled by experts than random
collections thrown together by people playing with technology...
Am I missing the point?
(Obviously)
