Folks
(I've unsubbed and resubbed in order to get posting access back to the list - I hope this works!)
First a disclaimer - Giv P who works on NMOLP used to work for me and is a good mate (as we say down here).
Second (and this is the only reason I'm buying in to this) - give NMOLP a break.
I think everyone is missing a crucial point - and that is the target audience is likely to be teachers (and the majority of students) who aren't up on 'other other options' and quite possibly have their access at schools *blocked* to the 'other options'. Down here in Australia it is not uncommon for entire state school systems blocking access to Flickr and most of the social web. One state school system here blocks Wikipedia!
Most teachers - not the funky younger ones who havent been ground down by the reality of having no time to plan new lessons etc - actually do want to have an easy and *trusted* place where they can send their students and with the right marketing push NMOLP can easily fulfil that role.
Of course it is far from perfect - everyone who makes web stuff knows the myriad of holes in their own work - but it is a good start and I get the feeling that the MCG critics are overlooking the reality that the target audience for the project is NOT them!
