Dear all,
For some unknown reason we at Glasgow Caledonian University completely missed the announcements about "Research For Libraries" Chest agreement. An oversight on our part. Mea Culpa. (Although I would have thought that since they had a Chest agreement in place the publisher could have advised existing customers of this deal?)
We currently subscribe direct to two databases from Research For Libraries: Verdict and Business Insights. Having queried whether we might be able to switch our subscription over to the Chest agreement for this year the publisher has refused. This is unfortunate as it would not only save us money (more important this year than ever), but it would also guarantee the publisher a 3 year subscription period. I thought that a 3 year commitment would be more attractive to a publisher given the current difficulties libraries are facing regarding budget planning?
The reason we could not switch is that we did not give the publisher 30 days notice of our intention to cancel in advance of our renewal date. We are planning to give written notice of our intention to cancel our subscription to these two databases now to avoid the same problem next year. Unfortunately for the publisher this means that any decision to sign up to the Chest agreement now can't be taken until next year. And who knows what our budget will be then and whether or not we can commit to a 3 year subscription at that point? This seems a bit short-sighted on the publisher's behalf.
Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same problem? Hopefully this is a warning to any institutions who are yet to renew their subscriptions to Research For Libraries (if they've not already missed their 30 day cancellation in advance of renewal window!) that there is a Chest agreement available.
Best wishes,
Lorna
