Dear Serialists,
This year, we have all suffered from the dramatic decline in value of sterling against the euro and dollar - have we any idea what the collective shortfall in HE serials budgets is? It must run to millions. How have we coped with it? And what do we see happening next year? Are publishers aware of how acute our fiscal problems are and have they thought about what they can do to help?
Whilst I hesitate to launch yet another survey, I hope that you will feel the topic is important enough to warrant spending some of your valuable time in replying. There are questions on your total serials spend and spend on big deals over the last 3 years that it would be helpful to have looked up in advance, otherwise the questions are very straightforward and should take you around 10 mins to complete.
I will use the replies to inform a paper I am presenting at UKSG , which will subsequently appear in Serials. I will also post links to an anonymised summary of findings to this list. If the UK responses are significant, I am proposing to run customised versions of the survey in Europe and North America to see how our perceptions sit with those of other countries who have experience of working with their versions of the Big Deal.
To complete the survey, please go to: http://www.survey.bris.ac.uk/newcastle/bd09
Thank you in advance for your time and input.
Kind regards,
