A Study of Access of Young People to Culture
Dear List Subscribers,
In wonder if anyone could help me. I'm currently producing a report
commissioned by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency
with the European Commission and led by InterArts, an International
Cultural Policy centre based in Barcelona which specialises in the field
of local and regional cultural policies entitled 'A Study of Access of
Young People to Culture.' There are 27 countries participating in the
research and I am the UK correspondent.
The aim of the study is to identify key youth policies, particularly
those relating to access to culture, key players (government bodies,
cultural organisations etc) and legal and normative youth policy
frameworks as well as to present more general discussions about young
people's current cultural patterns and main trends in contemporary youth
cultures in the UK. In the report I am also considering what kinds of
obstacles there may be to young people's access to culture.
What I am particularly interested in finding out from members of this
list is any examples of what might be described as 'best practice' in
terms of cultural programmes/activities/initiatives for disabled young
people that have been particularly successful in enabling 'access to
culture'. As a sociologist I am not very familiar with this area
(although extremely interested in it) and would really welcome any
advice that you might be able to give as experts in this field. If
anyone has any links, or suggestions of further studies that I might
look at this would be greatly appreciated.
As is the case with most things like this, my deadline is extremely
tight (end of March)! So I hope to hear from you soon!
With Best Regards
Sian Lincoln
