Hi list-members
This is a bit "off-topic" but not completely
I'm experiencing a nightmare in finding out accommodation for a post-doc
year of research in Leeds.
I'm a wheelchair user, so I need an accessible place according with my
special needs...
you'll find my needs in the email ending this one.
can someone help?
I'll be in Leeds for house-hunting from 20 t0 28 march, I need
accommodation ASAP so I can start my research
thanks in advance
Angelo

Dear Fr. Peter,
I've been in contact with Accommodation Office.
They ve no rooms for me. The Charles Morris hall, where I lived in 2006,
is under re-build.
they told me they are unusure even if I come in june (but I must start
in March, otherwise i loose the scholarship)
Here is a description I use in this day for house hunting:
Please note that I use manual wheelchair indoor
and power wheelchair outdoor
and I have no Car.
Here are my Accessibility needs:
The Bathroom:
my most critical environment is the toilet as I need a level access
shower, a manual wheelchair to use in it (i.e. shower wheelchair which
I can move showering)
and what you call "shower-toilet" in English: an electronic bidet.
to see an example http://www.indigoshowers.co.uk/Electronic-bidet.htm
The Bedroom:
The rest is about placing here or there some grab bars in order me to
1) reach the bed or for me to be able to grab and
2) stand to pull up my trousers
Cooking:
I will also need a ktchen I can use from the chair
Exiting and entering:
Last time i was in leeds campus they gave me also an electronic key to
open the door which was
heavy due to fire rules ... as I couldn't properly turn the key into the
lock.
