Scoping a Vision of Formative E-Assessment

The London Knowledge Lab, Institute of Education, University of London
  Tuesday, 28 April 2009 10.10 - 4.00

This key event in developing e-Assessment is based on JISC-funded
research involving renowned experts in formative assessment and e-
learning based at the Institute of Education, University of London.
Wiliam, Pachler, Daly, Mor and Mellar have worked with Diana
Laurillard and applied their thinking on pedagogical approaches from
cases of formative assessment practice to enhance what is known as e-
Assessment. This event addresses key issues in the effective use of
technologies to support formative processes for learners and teachers.
The challenge is to identify what exactly is the contribution of
technologies to formative assessment processes? Despite the mass
adoption of technologies in most learning institutions, their
potential to support formative assessment is not well-understood, and
there is considerable need for practitioners to share current
innovative approaches. This event explores these issues with practical
examples of cases and patterns of formative e-assessment developed by
the project at two centres for innovation at the IoE, The Centre for
Work-based Learning and the London Knowledge Lab.

The day will provide participants with:

        • Critical engagement with current issues in formative e-assessment
        • Practitioner cases of formative e-assessment
        • Familiarity with the patterns of formative e-assessment which were
developed by the project as a key to inform future software development
        • An overview of formative e-assessment within wider pedagogical
principles and perspectives

The event will be of interest to: e-learning practitioners across the
FE, HE and AE sectors; all those involved in the design and management
of courses involving technologies; those with a research interest in
formative assessment and technologies; and software developers.

Further information can be found on the project wiki: http://snipurl.com/feasst
