Social Statistics.
Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Lancaster University
The MSc in Applied Social Statistics offers a thorough training in
statistical methodology, suitable for social science graduates
interested in quantitative empirical work and science and mathematics
graduates wishing to develop expertise in social statistics.
* Students are trained in the joint roles of substantive theory,
data collection and statistical analysis with applications to health,
economic, sociological and management issues.
* The course does not require a high level of mathematics but has
a practical emphasis, with students gaining extensive experience in
statistical computing.
* Assessment is by coursework and an in-depth project.
The department provides a stimulating study environment within a
vigorous research community of around 20 academic staff and 30

We have four ESRC studentships for students wishing to continue study
towards a PhD. Full studentships (tuition fees plus maintenance) are
available for students who satisfy the ESRC's UK residency criteria,
whereas for non-UK but EU citizens the studentship pays tuition only.
