Continuity and Change will be a major interdisciplinary and international
conference on Southeast Asia. Its key aim is to reopen the debate on the
issue of 'power' - both in real life and academic scholarship - as it is
manifest across the region. Given the prominent role that Southeast Asian
ethnographies of 'power' have played in mainstream anthropological debate,
the conference promises to be of immense interest to area specialists and
generalists alike.
Panel themes include:
- Locating the State
- Sovereignty and Jurisdiction
- The Place of Power
- Power in Performance
- Virtue, Prayer, and Power
- The Practicalities of Power
- Facilitating power: welfare, well-being and prosperity
Hope to see you there!
Liana Chua, Joanna Cook, Nick Long & Lee Wilson,
Convenors
