GAIA and its 3-D capability will continue to be maintained by the JAC
on our selected platforms (i.e. we will deal with portability issues
etc) indefinitely. Note, Cygwin is not a selected platform. Tim will
answer your Cygwin question separately.
The development situation is this: we have 5 months of effort from
Peter in FY 2009/2010. That effort is already allocated to JAC
priorities (for example, visualisation of non-uniform extended
emission source catalogues - "clumps"). The situation for FY 2010/2011
is completely unknown (and generally pessimistic at this
point). Anyone who can bring money to the table is welcome to set
their priorities.
GAIA is used for UKIRT IFU data once the data has been converted to a
cube. Any IFU instrument can do the same - they just need to take care
of the data conversion (and, if they want native support, they need to
find the money for it).
Aloha,
Frossie
