The HRF function is the same length; changing the duration changes the
length of the stimulus. When stimuli of different durations are
convolved with a canonical HRF, the resulting predicted response
differs in both duration and overall magnitude (up to a certain
point). The Griband article Jason referred to
(http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.neuroimage.2008.07.065)---and many
others---show examples of this. Hope this clarifies a bit.
