This is a pure HR/management issue, step out of it and be available to listen to and for advising your patient. We often criticise HR for not doing their jobs, in this case you are could be accused of getting in the way of them doing their job.

I wonder if anyone can despatch some pearls of wisdom for me, I am currently
in contact with an employee who is off with stress, he claims that this is
due to work and its as a result of him having to move offices whilst we have
some refurbishments done. I have contacted him on a couple of occasions to
try and work through the issues but he is now going through the grievance
procedure with the company as he has put in a grievance about his working
conditions, although I am looking at this from a health perspective I find
it increasingly difficult not to get embroiled in the grievance and my HR
manager has told me that I mustn't compromise myself by listening to his
grievance and getting involved, but how can I not when the grievance is
about his work issues which have manifested as stress? I have now reached
the stage where I don't know what to say to the employee as all they want to
do is talk about the grievance, and I appreciate that his stress levels will
only continue to rise whilst the grievance is unresolved.
Any advice would be most welcome
Thanks
Amanda
