No, I'm volunteering you :-)
That said, we have used non-certified releases of DPM in the past for
this sort of reason; we used the early 64 bit builds a while back on
our then new kit, as did (at least) Cambridge (who, AIUI, also wound
up accidentally running 1.7.0 by not unconfiguring the repository, but
to no ill effect). In general I have a reasonable degree of confidence
that when the DPM developers say something's ready it actually is,
regardless of the gLite release process. Also, DPM pools are pretty
easy to set up.
I'm not so sure about the head node, but for pool nodes I think I'd go
for it if necessary, but since we specified our new kit as 'must run
SL4',
it's all academic here.
