The Centre for Elections and Representation Studies at the Department of
Government, University of Strathclyde invites you to a major international
conference on:
Public and Politicians: A Broken Connection?
To be held in the Court/Senate Suite of the University on 27 and 28 March
2009.
Speakers include:
- Rt. Hon. Henry McLeish, former First Minister of Scotland
- Prof. Arthur Lupia, Univ. of Michigan and Principal Investigator, American
National Election Study,
- Prof. Shaun Bowler, Univ. of California,
- Prof. Cees van der Eijk, Univ. of Nottingham and formerly Univ. of
Amsterdam.
The conference will look at the strength of the links between voters and
politicians in mature democracies in the first decade of the 21st. century.
It will diagnose whether and why those links have weakened, assess the
apparent consequences of any erosion, and consider the merits of reforms
that have been proposed improve matters. It will be a must for anyone
interested in the health of our democracy.
