Lancaster University Three Day Course on Research Ethics and Vulnerability:
March 23rd – 25th 2008
This three day training event is aimed at researchers who wish to gain a
critical understanding of what constitutes vulnerability and the issues
surrounding research with so-called ‘vulnerable groups’. In particular it will
draw out issues that might cause tension between researchers and
researched when working with vulnerable people.
Training will focus around a series of key position papers around themed topics
followed by a series of seminars/workshops in which participants will be
encouraged to critically engage with the issues. Informal discussions will be
facilitated outside of the formal sessions to encourage the development of a
broad forum for exchange of ideas.
The event will be convened by a single member of the training team from
Lancaster University but facilitated by all members of the team. External guest
speakers and experienced staff from across Lancaster University will
contribute to the debates.
NOTE: While participants should come to the event prepared to engage in
critical discussion, it is not necessary to have attended any of the previous
workshops in this Research Training Initiative.
