I interviewed Bill Hart-Smith in his anecdotage in Auckland, but don't recall
something I should know about.
I mentioned him to my writing group the other evening, along with Roland
Robinson, as two English-born Australian writers who believed there was one
great way of becoming authentically Australian:
going into things Aboriginal.
They weren't immediately enthused.
