Here is a draft of a sonnet for the Bar-B-Q novel?
HEAT WAVE SONNET
The drama is how much this has cost
How many dollars. We should see signs
consuming in a monopoly supermarket
The lazy air-conditioners blow humid
moving the stubborn air, heavy heat
moves a little with the sunset, air
chasing wet heat, can breath demand.
Power generators on the grid overload
Coolness. Heat leaves the dusty ground
with a three quarter moon, a going sun
and in the hour before dawn, chilly
woollen blankets cover our naked torsos.
Heat starts early in the morning. Hot
again. Unable to eat needing to drink.
